GEELONG ATHLETE COMPLETES THE MASTERS CLEAN SWEEP
Nick Hodgson completed the Quadrella of Gold medals in the Triple Jump event on the weekend at the Victorian Masters Track and Field Championships in Melbourne. While also beating the other competitors in the younger age groups, Nick added yet another gold medal to his haul from the Geelong, Victorian Country and Australian Masters Championships. Nick is now training towards the World Masters Games which will be held in Sydney next Spring.
In his “younger years” Nick was ranked in the top 8 nationally in one of the most skilful, challenging and jarring events in Athletics. “After a 15 year break from the track, it has been great to get back to training and competing, motivating me to get into better shape. Like most middle aged men, you don’t realise how you are progressively becoming slower, rounder and stiffer as the years creep by. But the good news is that you can regain some of your lost vigour when you make regular exercise a priority.”
Nick is a Chiropractor with 20 years experience in private practice and has recently commenced consulting at Chirolife in Torquay Road Belmont. This means one of Geelong’s most experienced Chiropractors is now working in one of the longest established practices. “When I first arrived in Geelong and practiced in Ocean Grove, the Belmont practice was being run by Brian Lonsdale; There’s been a lot of new faces through the practice since Brian left, so I think the patients will appreciate a more stable service, from someone with very experienced hands.”
Nick is actively involved in the chiropractic profession’s development and regularly trains other Chiropractors in one of the more modern and gentle treatment techniques. “I guess the public perception of Chiropractic is sometimes a little negative with nick-names like “bone crunchers”: But the really exciting thing for me is that the profession is evolving through time and it is now possible to offer great results with really gentle and high-tech treatment.”
A significant part of Nick's regimen includes receiving Chiropractic adjustments himself. "I always teach any elite athletes that I look after that they must get their recovery strategies working well. You can waste a lot of hard work and preparation if you end up injured or underdone on competition day. I have always used adjustments as an effective means to maximising my own recovery between training sessions, and as fine tuning coming up to big meets."
