INTRODUCTION:
A new client arrives in your practice with an agonizing story of pain and suffering, numerous invasive procedures under their belt, and multiple therapeutic failures behind them: And then your healing magic starts. Seemingly from the time they commence receiving the therapeutic program that you offer, their health complaint starts to recede and their overall wellbeing starts to increase. And we’re not just talking about bad backs or aches and pains are we? So many ailments can begin to self-heal once the right buttons are being pressed - but how do you measure change without the right measuring tools?
The results are at times so amazing that you think to yourself, “I should tell the world about this, even write this case up and submit it for publication.” So, you sit down and review the case and you’re suddenly confronted with a problem: How can you prove that the problem actually did improve? After all the success story of one patient is really nothing more than a testimonial… If only you’d had a resource in your kit when the client first presented to quantify the severity of their symptoms and the level of disability and dysfunction? Well, now you can easily – by incorporating health outcome questionnaires into your routine procedures.

You can now purchase an e-book packed with health outcome questionnaires plus access to a bonus folder with excel spreadsheets to track progress and even compare results across a group of patients.

BENEFITS:
There are many important reasons to utilise outcome tools in your practice:
1) QUANTIFY SEVERITY OF SYMPTOMS AND DYSFUNCTION TO DEMONSTRATE AND SUPPORT CLINICAL CARE NECESSITY…
People present in your office because they want help with improving what they perceive to be a threat to their lifestyle, their health and maybe even their lifespan. How do you put some sort of qualitative or even quantitative value to their dysfunction?
With health outcome questionnaires you now have the ability to cover the bases, for a wide range of health conditions, and a means to record and quantify where a person is at when they first present for help. Each questionnaire has questions specific to that complaint making it simple to record a thorough “history” without much effort – you can even have the client fill out the questions themselves.
2) A SEVERITY RATING TOOL TO DEMONSTRATE CHANGE AT RE-EXAM: DON’T RELY ON CLIENTS’ MEMORY TO PROVE CARE IS WORKING…
People are forgetful, especially when it comes to pain. They arrive twisted over and in agony, and they make all sorts of promises about how they will never let themselves get into this state again. And then three weeks later they are asking why your care isn’t helping much – and yet at the same time they no longer need your help to get on and off the treatment bench, they stand and move normally, and they’re telling you how they are playing great golf now! If only you could have recorded just how bad they were back then – and show them how far you have taken them on their healing journey?
Well, you can with health questionnaires – when they complete a review of the questionnaire after the completion of your initial care period, you can show how each aspect of the problem has improved, and by how much – THEN they will remember what you have done for them and they will be more receptive and respectful of your recommendations for further care.
3) HAVE AN IMPARTIAL MEASURE OF CLIENTS' PROGRESS.
Some people will try to jump ship before they arrive at their agreed destination: Some are avoiding paying the fare, but most are just failing to comprehend the healing timeline, and are denying the severity and chronicity of their health status. Nowadays when I hear this doubt surfacing, I simply hand the person a new questionnaire and say, "let’s see what’s happening". Usually what you find is the person gets a shock as to how far they really have come, but secondly, they usually get a reminder of the fact that they aren’t done yet.
4) COLLATE RESULTS FROM CLIENTS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS.
The scoring system with these tools, and optional data collection spreadsheets make it really simple to collect a database that stores scores across client groups. This not only builds confidence when you see the positive impact that your programs are having, it also increases experience and know-how by observing patterns, and being able to review what’s working, and even what isn’t.
5) IMPRESS NEW CLIENTS THAT THEY ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE AND THAT YOU ARE AN EXPERT.
People with chronic and complex health concerns may actually consult you with minor symptomatic issues, and not expect that you can actually potentially help them with their “disease”. Now watch how pleasantly surprised, excited and motivated they become when you pull out relevant resources, specific to their condition. Not only does this open up the world of options for their complaint, it expands their perception and appreciation of why they should continue to see YOU, the person who knows about their problem.
6) SIMPLIFY RECORD KEEPING BY UTILISING “NO-BRAINER” CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION TOOLS
These are not validated research tools – they are practice improving clinical tools designed to simplify documentation and increase objectification of your findings. If you’re like me, when you really look at most validated research questionnaires, they suck as clinical tools – they are designed to pick out some limited and characteristic features – but they are always narrow and inadequate as a clinical tool for this very same reason. In contrast our health outcome questionnaires are designed to take a good history for you, and to put this history into measurable terms.
7) SPEED UP NEW PATIENT INTERVIEW PROCESS
Some paperwork can even be emailed or downloaded before the client reaches your rooms. And not all of it needs to be finished by the time they see you or even before they start care – let them take some home and ask them to return it next visit – this helps them to see that they are involved in a gradual process with you, and that you aren’t just going to “fix them” on the first visit.
8) FOCUS TIME DOING WHAT YOU DO BEST
The more you utilise these tools, you will notice that you already know so much about the person from reading their questionnaire. Don’t just look at the scores; also look at which questions they scored the worst on. Use these as discussion and focus points and as guides to clinical and technical priorities.
